Water and Climate Resilience

A small body of clear water overflowing into another water area.

Tetra Tech delivers water services consultancy across a range of sectors and complexities including Water & Wastewater, Government Services, Energy & Utilities, Defence, Nuclear, Transport, Property & Residential.

The risks of flooding from rivers, sea, and surface water runoff impacts people, property, and the environment. Through climate change, sea level rise and increased rainfall, these risks will intensify in the coming decades.

Tetra Tech’s innovative, environmentally sensitive approach to water services and climate resilience is Leading with Science® to provide technical solutions to these risks. Robust strong ranking in Water by Engineering News Record magazine for 20 years, we are backed by our U.S-based water team, bringing a comprehensive understanding of water and wastewater legislation, policy, and implementation across complex and ever-changing regulatory frameworks.

Solutions to manage flood risk

Our multi-disciplinary approach recognises risks, evaluates solutions, and finds the appropriate actions to meet client and stakeholder needs. Considerations of other technical disciplines, commercial constraints, and regulatory guidance are implemented alongside techniques like hydraulic modelling, GIS processes and 3D analysis.

Catchment hydrology and hydraulic modelling

We use modelling to assess the future risks of climate change from increased rainfall runoff into rivers and across the ground surface. Through detailed mapping and GIS processing, we accurately present all sources of flood risk to enable efficient design.

Producing sustainable designs

The design of flood mitigation requires technical expertise to manage current and future risks. Our teams use detailed surveys to understand local topographical, geotechnical, and geo-environmental conditions to inform design decisions.

Consenting, planning and construction support

Statutory planning and consenting approval and engaging local communities is essential to enable site works. We support our clients through these stages and beyond, liaising with organisations like the Environment Agency and the Lead Local Flood Authorities to achieve consent and permits. We can also advise during construction phases through site supervision or providing principal designer, contract, and project management roles.
