Sited on Britain’s Energy Coast, Energus is a dedicated Centre of Excellence delivering a range of training, education and business support services.
Tetra Tech’s involvement began through a framework appointment to create a business plan and support project funding applications. We subsequently delivered project management, civil, structural and building services engineering for this £19m facility.
Our innovative approach has provided a flexible space that can be used for education, training, conferences and entertainment. Sustainability was a key objective and the design includes several low energy technologies, including 1500m2 of photovoltaics, low NOX high efficiency gas fired boilers and rainwater harvesting. Using specialist integrated environmental solutions software, we modelled and evaluated every aspect of construction in order to optimise the design and provided mechanical ventilation rather than full air conditioning.
The 6,000m2 centre houses engineering workshops, general teaching space, I.T. facilities, lecture theatres and science laboratories. It provides a one-stop-shop for engagement and training activities to meet the needs of local businesses, schools and universities and promote world-class skills and career pathways.
