Tetra Tech supports large community scheme in North Stoneham Park

Working with Highwood Group, Tetra Tech is providing planning and environment services to a large-scale development of over 1,100 new homes in North Stoneham.

With outline permission first granted in early 2016, construction is now well underway and the first residents have already started moving into their new accommodation.

Alongside diverse types of open-market housing, 35 percent of the scheme will comprise affordable housing, adding to a mix of private rental homes, a care home and assisted living apartments for the elderly. Home designs rely on a fabric-first energy efficiency approach and renewable energy technologies.

To enhance long-term sustainability, the scheme incorporates a new local centre, comprising a community centre, shops, café and a gym, a school and nursery, as well as public open spaces, new modern office floorspace, and other infrastructure improvements.

All of the above are expected to contribute significant employment opportunities.

The new community retains and enhances historic parkland within its core as part of landscaped public open space to include footpaths, play areas, and features that will safeguard local ecology and habitats. It will also help deliver an extension and improvements to the nearby Lakeside Country Park.

To support the development, we provided planning and masterplanning, public/stakeholder engagement, Environmental Impact Assessment, ecology, lighting, and minerals and waste services.

We also secured permissions from Eastleigh and Test Valley Borough Councils for new and improved sports facilities on land south of Junction 5 of the M27, including a new pavilion, floodlit all-weather football pitches, cricket squares, and a new home for AFC Stoneham. A new footway and cycleway from the new community will link Eastleigh with the new facilities and into Southampton along Stoneham Lane.

Phase 1 of the development was ‘Highly Commended’ by judges in the ‘Homes – Post Construction Stage’ category at the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) Awards 2019. The ceremony took place at London’s Hilton Bankside on 4th March.

We are proud of the involvement we have had in delivering the new sustainable community at North Stoneham Park.  The high commendation of the project at the BREEAM Awards is a testament to the philosophy of Tetra Tech, and that of Highwood and their partners. It also recognises the quality and principles of environmental, social, and economic sustainability embodies by the project.
