Tetra Tech nominated for prestigious planning industry award

Tetra Tech has been named a finalist for Excellence in Planning for a Successful Economy at the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Awards for Planning Excellence 2019.

The RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence are the most established and respected awards in the UK planning industry. Running for over 40 years, they celebrate exceptional examples of planning and the contribution planners make to society.

The shortlisted project entails a masterplan for a rural multi-modal transport interchange at Whittlesford Parkway Station to provide the capacity and connectivity to facilitate housing and jobs growth.

As part of the masterplan, measures were identified to improve connectivity between the station and its large rural hinterland, particularly by sustainable modes of travel, and increase the capacity of the station to accommodate significant increases in use over the next 10-20 years.

Ben King, Associate at Tetra Tech, said: “We are delighted to receive this nomination. Our masterplan sets out to maximise the accessibility of the station, particularly through alternatives to the car, raising its capacity to meet increasing demand and reduce the impact of commuting on local residents. It’s been a great team effort and the masterplan provides a strong framework for further investment.”

To complete the masterplan, our team actively engaged with over fifty stakeholders including Parish and District Councillors, local residents, commuters, rail and platform operators, large local employment hubs, and local campaign groups.”

The RTPI champions the power of planning in creating prosperous places and vibrant communities. It is the only body in the UK that confers Chartered status to planners, the highest professional qualification sought after by employers. It supports its members – over 25,000 worldwide – throughout their careers.

RTPI President Ian Tant MRTPI said: “Many congratulations to all this year’s finalists, who demonstrate outstanding contributions to planning, producing a positive effect on our communities, the economy and the environment. They have shown how planners can use their passion and skills to meet needs, deliver high quality design and tackle environmental challenges – they should all be proud of their role as a force for good in society.”

The winners will be announced during a ceremony held at Milton Court Concert Hall in central London on 24 April 2019.
