Trafford Retail Park Aldi

Permission for Greater Manchester’s vibrant Trafford Retail Park

Tetra Tech Planning provided planning consultancy and ecology services to gain hybrid planning permission for an 80,000-sq ft extension to Trafford Retail Park in Greater Manchester.

This vibrant park hosts leisure space and a strong lineup of retailers to further boost its annual footfall of nearly 5 million visitors, including an 1,800-sq ft Starbucks drive-thru and an 18,568-sq ft Aldi supermarket.

Completing this extension marked a key milestone as part of landowner Peel’s aspirations for its park. With our team having previously helped secure permissions for the original site, Tetra Tech was an obvious candidate to provide planning support on the expansion.

The team at Peel drew on our retail planning expertise to inform the progression of a successful design and to meet stringent requirements for the planning application.

To support this, we provided:

  • Retail impact and sequential test assessments
  • Assessments of the vitality and viability of neighbouring town centres to ensure compliance with retail planning policies.
  • Comprehensive Planning and Design and Access Statements.
  • Project management oversight to ensure all technical supporting documents in the planning application relayed the necessary information to achieve approval.

Our ecologists further supported this scheme to ensure its viability by providing site surveys and advising on habitat improvement measures and BREEAM ecology requirements.

Following planning approval, Tetra Tech continued to advise the client on further amendments to the scheme to satisfy the requirements of new retail tenants. The scheme was completed on schedule.
