Planning consent secured for major Allerdale employment site

Close collaboration between Tetra Tech, Kier Group, and Jefferson Sheard has secured planning consent from Allerdale Borough Council for a 33,800sqm industrial development of enabling infrastructure to support the local economy in Lilyhall North, Cumbria.

The approved scheme will pave the way for high-quality employment uses, including industrial and storage units, and research and development facilities. It is estimated the site could bring 360 jobs and support economic developments gains of roughly £19m annually for the Cumbria LEP economy.

Following completion of Tetra Tech’s full site investigation in January this year, Kier’s construction works will commence onsite in April. Tetra Tech also completed detailed highway and drainage designs and specifications for the 400m long main access road, 40m roundabout, as well as a Sustainable Urban Drainage pond.

Nick Bunn, Director leading the Tetra Tech team, commented on the scheme: “It’s been an extremely compressed timescale, but the teams worked extremely efficiently together in spite of the large scope of works. The consistent and thorough liaison with the Council and other stakeholders proved essential to gaining permission for a site that can now be developed out.”

The team came together at the end of October 2020 and produced a masterplan along with supporting technical submissions to meet an application deadline date of 18 December. Early engagement with consultees and regular discussions with the planners proved essential to achieving planning consent just eight weeks later.
