Botanical training offered by Tetra Tech this summer

We are excited to reveal that Tetra Tech now offers one-day CPD-accredited training courses on botany.

Dr. Tim Rich, one of the UK’s leading vascular plant botanists, will run the courses available to both beginners and those wishing to improve their skills and knowledge of botany. Tim has authored over 300 scientific books and papers on the British flora and is a referee with the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland for the cabbage family, fumitories, gentians and whitebeams. He is a renowned trainer and has lectured extensively at Cardiff and Manchester Metropolitan Universities.

The workshops include a desk-based session in the morning, followed by site visits covering a range of habitat types and species. The courses will take place at the Parc Slip Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre, Glamorgan CF32 0EH, a restored opencast coal mine with 300 acres of habitat, including grassland, woodland and wetlands.

Currently, we have the following courses scheduled for Summer 2019:

  • Grasses, Rushes and Sedges

Thursday, 11th July, 2019

An introduction to identification of these difficult plants, it will explain basic floristic structure, diagnostic features and how to identify common species.

Cost per person: £100 + VAT

  • Introduction to Phase 1 Survey

Thursday, 1st August, 2019

An introduction to this fundamental survey methodology, including its value and some limitations. It will comprise field surveys to practice mapping and target noting various habitats.
