It’s been quite the week of recognition for Tetra Tech. We are thrilled to share that several of our projects have been recognised across numerous awards ceremonies.
ACE crowns Tetra Tech as 2019’s Placemaking Champion
The Association for Consultancy and Engineering crowned Tetra Tech its Placemaking Champion on 6th June at the 2019 Consultancy and Engineering Awards. It marks a tremendous accomplishment for the planning, heritage, and urban design work our team contributed to the historic Jennings building in Porthcawl, and the rejuvenation of Edinburgh’s George Street.
Projects like George Street let us contribute meaningfully to turning city centres into vibrant and safe spaces. The George Street design emphasises people, place, heritage, and economy with a robust public realm design that not only caters to active travel and accessibility but also adapting to the next 100 years of changes.
Planning Awards success
At The Planning Awards on 4th June, Tetra Tech received the Award for infrastructure planning for our work on the Whittlesford Parkway Station Masterplan. It’s a fantastic endorsement of both our transport and urban design experts’ capabilities on a project supporting sustainable growth through healthy and active travel in the South Cambridgeshire area.
We also received a nomination in Best use of publicly-owned land and/or property in placemaking for securing planning permission for St. Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey. The development will provide 475 new homes in Runnymede under an NHS initiative to accelerate health improvement care for over 350,000 people in northwest Surrey. The 31-hectare site will house both local residents and staff at the Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Ground Engineering Awards nomination for York Station
We are proud to have received an additional nomination at the Ground Engineering Awards ceremony on 5th June in the ‘Ground Investigation Project of the Year – Under £2m’ category. The nomination recognised our team’s ground investigation of York Railway Station on behalf of City of York Council in fulfilling its ambitious plans to transform the interchange into a vibrant new transport hub connecting to the wider region and country.
Our geo-environment team provided site-specific information on various challenges, complemented by reporting from our in-house archaeology team. Not only was this work complex and logistically challenging, but it also required the team to balance the needs of the client against a mandate to minimise the impact of the works on the general public and landowners.
Apprentice recognition for Matthew Baker
While it’s always exciting to see our projects celebrated for their social, environmental, and economic impact, it’s equally satisfying to see our young people celebrated as well. Honourable mention goes to our Trainee Project Manager, Matthew Baker, who received a nomination in the Apprentice of the Year category.
Matthew has shown exceptional development throughout his apprenticeship, embracing his profession ethically and wholeheartedly. Having been seconded to the Houses of Parliament as a Project Support Officer, he has supported 18 complex projects over a short period of time in which he has been commended for his professionalism and his ability to identify risks and manage stakeholders’ expectations.
As an Association for Project Management Ambassador, he has also visited schools, career fairs and universities to raise awareness of career opportunities in the built environment sector.
